I haven't used disqus enough to know everything about it, but I'm pretty sure it keeps track of any discussion that you have taken part in (in other words, if someone comments after me here, it will automatically notify me via my disqus page. Also, the up and down arrows to the left of each comment allow anyone to vote (up or down) on each comment.
